The Effect of Mental Practice On Placement and Speed Of Serving in Tennis

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of three training programs on learning the serving in tennis. The first program uses only the physical practice, the second program uses a physical practice plus watched a video modeling mental training, and the third program was physical training plus video modeling and imagery mental training. The participants were (45) male who enrolled in course of Tennis College of Physical Education University of Baghdad. The researcher used Hewitts Service Tests for pre and post-tests, all three groups were given (8) weeks for serve to learn the acquisition of serving tennis ball. Post-test was administered after (8) weeks. Data analysis consists (M, SD, t-Test, ANOVA, and L.S.D). Results revealed that the first group was the best in speed test, while the third group was the best in accuracy test. The study recommended the use of mental training beside the physical training for better learning.
